EPCOT Overview

EPCOT, the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, opened on October 1, 1982. It was conceived by Walt Disney to take its cue from the new ideas and new technologies that are now emerging from the creative centers of American industry.

EPCOT is now unified with four neighborhoods that each speak to important aspects of the world and its people: World Showcase, World Celebration, World Nature and World Discovery. These neighborhoods are filled with new experiences rooted in authenticity and innovation that take guests to new destinations, where the real is made fantastic in a celebration of curiosity, discovery and the magic of possibility.

In the very front of the park is the iconic Spaceship Earth. Located inside the iconic "golf ball", Spaceship Earth is a slow-moving attraction that tells the history of communication and where communication may be headed in the future. If you stick around until dark during the 50th Anniversary Celebration, you'll be treated to a "Beacon of Magic" as Spaceship Earth lights up in a spectacular fashion.

For many years, EPCOT was considered an 'adult' park. Disney worked hard to overcome this reputation and most have discovered that kids can have a blast visiting EPCOT, including the 'boring' countries.

One of the best things that was done was to introduce Kidcot Fun Stops in World Showcase. Kids can create a free (yes, you read that right!) souvenir to take home with them. Take advantage of the Kidcot Fun Stops and think twice about watching some of the movies at several of the countries. If your child balks at one of them, move on to another one.

Harmonious made its debut on October 1, 2021, and celebrates how Disney music inspires people around the world. Harmonious is one of the largest nighttime spectaculars ever created and features music and images that have been reimagined by diverse cultural musicians and artists from around the world. This nighttime spectacular features massive floating set pieces, custom-built LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics, and lasers.

One of the absolute best features of this park is how wide open and expansive it is. If you're feeling hemmed in at the other theme parks, hop on a boat, bus, the Disney Skyliner, or monorail and get yourself to EPCOT.

EPCOT's New Entrance, New Play Pavilion, & More Coming for Disney World's 50th Anniversary!

Walt Disney once said EPCOT “would always be in a state of becoming” – it is a place that changes with the times. EPCOT will live up to that promise in a whole new way as it continues the biggest transformation of any Disney park in history, bringing the next generation of immersive storytelling to life through a plethora of new attractions and experiences.

Upon completion of the current transformation, EPCOT will be unified with four neighborhoods that each speak to important aspects of the world and its people: World Showcase, World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery. These neighborhoods will each be filled with new experiences rooted in authenticity and innovation that will take guests to new destinations, where the real is made fantastic in a celebration of curiosity, discovery, and the magic of possibility.

The new entrance plaza to EPCOT is complete and has new pathways, greenery areas, and a newly reimagined fountain. The new design pays homage to the theme park's original entrance with a fresh take on classic elements.

• As guests pass Spaceship Earth, they will discover a breathtaking new view of World Showcase from Dreamers Point. World Celebration will soon feature a new statue that honors the legacy of the original dreamer, Walt Disney.
• Surrounding this enchanted garden is Creations Shop, Club Cool, Connections Cafe and Eatery, and a newly reimagined festival area that, once open, will be home to ever-changing events in a unique new environment.

• World Nature will be dedicated to understanding and preserving the beauty, awe and balance of the natural world and includes The Land and The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilions.
• Journey of Water, inspired by Moana, will be the first Disney Parks experience inspired by the hit Walt Disney Animation Studios film. This lush exploration trail will invite guests to meet and play with magical, living water. Just like Moana’s friend the ocean, water will have a personality of its own, helping guests learn how to protect the natural water cycle in a fun and engaging way.

• In World Discovery, stories about science, technology and intergalactic adventure come to life.
• Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is the first “other-world” showcase pavilion at EPCOT. The adventure starts in the Galaxarium, a planetarium-like exhibition that explores the similarities and mysteries of the formation of Earth’s galaxy and Xandar. Guests are invited to learn more about the treasures Xandar has to share – until the moment when the Guardians of the Galaxy arrive, and adventures across the cosmos ensue. The attraction features new innovation from Walt Disney Imagineering – a storytelling coaster that rotates 360 degrees to focus guests on the action, including the first reverse launch on a Disney coaster. On the ride, guests experience the thrill and adventure of space travel.
• In an expansion of the Mission: SPACE pavilion, Space 220, is a culinary experience that offers the celestial panorama of a space station, including daytime and nighttime views of Earth from 220 miles up.

• World Showcase will continue to be a celebration of culture, cuisine, architecture and traditions – infused with new magic.
• The France pavilion now features the Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure attraction where guests shrink to the size of Chef Remy and race through Gusteau’s restaurant on a wild adventure. Joining this family-friendly experience in the France pavilion, the delicious new restaurant, La Crêperie de Paris, offers both table- and quick-service options and a menu from celebrity chef Jérôme Bocuse.
• Harmonious is one of the largest nighttime spectaculars ever created for a Disney park. It celebrates the way Disney music inspires people the world over, carrying them away harmoniously on a stream of familiar songs reinterpreted by a culturally diverse group of artists from around the globe. Harmonious features massive floating set pieces, custom-built LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics, lasers and more.
