Disney Cruise line is setting sail to Tortola, British Virgin Islands. This largest island in the island group and has secluded beaches, lush vegetation, sheletered coves, national parks and historic sites.
Tortola was first discovered by Christopher Columbus. Later, its secluded coves made it popular among the likes of the notorious pirates Captain Kidd and Bluebeard. Ultimately, the British created a plantation colony on Tortola and the surrounding islands. It remains under British rule today.
Among the historic sites are forts, churches, plantations and the Virgin Island Folk Museum. The Sage Mountain National Park has the highest elevation of the island chain. The Mount Healthy National Park has the only remaining windmill from the days when sugar plantations were the main source of revenue in the BVI. A palm lined entry leads you to the J.R. O'Neal Botanical Gardens while the Queen Elizabeth II National Park is popular for playing and relaxing.
